11 natural moisturizers for your skin care products

The skin needs to maintain a certain level of moisture.

In order to moisture skin cells from the inside, it is often recommended to drink enough water. For cosmetic products treating the outmost layer of the skin, moisturizers are used.

The list below lists natural moisturizers that can be used in your skin care products.

1. Botanical Glycerol Extracts:

These are Herbal Moisturising Extracts in Vegetable-based Glycerine. Therefore it moisturizes the skin and contains the benefits of the herbal properties.

2. Carbamide INCI name ‘UREA’

This moisturizer has no know toxicity even though it is synthetically produced using Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide. Found in the form of odourless crystals, it easily dissolves in water and alcohol. This moisturizer is used in deodorants, foot and hand creams.

3- D-Panthenol INCI name: Panthenol

D-Panthenol binds moisture in surface layers of the skin. It creates a protective film on hair and makes it soft and supple. This moisturizer is mainly used in creams and hair products, particularly for dry, thin hair and sensitive scalp.

4- Comfrey Glycerol Extract INCI name: Symphytum officinalis

Produced from Organic Comfrey Root extracts. Has soothing, moisturizing antiseptic and other well known healing propoerties. Good to use in Compresses, Shaving creams, Shaving water, Shampoos, Foam Baths and Toners. Has a faint herbal smell and has a beige/yellow colour.

5- Glycerine INCI name: Glycerine

Glycerine is a cheap simple moisturizer. Can be found both animal and vegetable-based.

6- Honey Moisturizer INCI name: Hydroxy Propyltrimonium honey

Natural honey is sticky in consistency.It has good moisture-binding properties. It has the ability to moisturise the hair, penetrate the endocuticle region and help to repair split ends.

7- Hyaluronic Acid INCI name: Aqua, Sodium Hyaluronate

Hyaluronic Acid is what give the skin its volume and fullness. Aging can result in the loss of hyaluronic acid.  Its hydrating propoerties result in increased skin smoothness, softening and decreased wrinkles.

8- Lactic Acid E270 INCI name: Lactic Acid (vegan)

Can be used as a moisturiser but is mainly used to regulate the pH in products.

9- NFF moisturiser INCI name: Sodium Lactate and Sodium PCA

NFF moisturiser is a pure vegetable-based alternative to animal-based collagen or elastin. NFF is used in creams and lotions as a natural moisturiser. Helps to bind moisture in the skin a deeper level than Glycerine.

10- Sorbitol (E 420) INCI name: Sorbitol

Sorbitol occurs naturally in many types of fruit and berries. It c an be used as a substitute to Glycerin. It gives a velvety feel to the skin. It is used in skin and body care products such as Creams, Liniments, Mouth Washes, Toothpastes, Hair sprays, Face Masks and Deodorants.

11- Witch Hazel Glycerol Extract INCI name: Hamamelis virginiana

It is extracted from the leaves of organic Witch Hazel. Works as an astingent and antiseptic. Use in toners, creams, gels and deodorants. Has a faint smell of Witch Hazel.
